Utah State vs. BYU score: Cougars take 17-7 lead into halftime

The BYU Cougars hold a 17-7 lead over the Utah State Aggies at halftime.

With the score already 10-7 in BYU’s favor midway through the first quarter, both defenses started to settle in a bit. The lone scoring drive of the second quarter was capped off with a 30-yard touchdown strike from Taysom Hill to Mitch Mathews that gave the Cougars their 10-point edge.

The big story of the game is Utah State quarterback Chuckie Keeton going down with what appeared to be a serious knee injury. Keeton’s left knee twisted while he scrambling out of the pocket, and he immediately looked to be in pain as he fell to the turf. He is not expected back in the second half. Aggies players were clearly distraught by the injury to their junior signal caller and they’ll really have to dig deep if they hope to make a comeback in the second half.

Hill has been impressive for BYU so far, completing 9-of-19 passes for 114 yards and the aforementioned touchdown. Keeton's replacement, Craig Harrison, has completed 8-of-13 passes for just 42 yards.
