BYU vs. Utah State 2013 final score: Cougars blow out Aggies, 31-14

Utah State was unable to get much of anything going after quarterback Chuckie Keeton left the game in the first quarter.

The BYU Cougars blew out Utah State on Friday night at Romney Stadium, cruising to a 31-14 win to improve to 3-2 on the young season.

The big story of the game was quarterback Chuckie Keeton leaving the game in the first quarter with what appeared to be a bad knee injury. Keeton's knee twisted while he was eluding pressure, and he immediately fell to the ground in pain after fumbling the football. He was helped off the field by team trainers and eventually carted to the locker room. Keeton returned with ice on his knee and is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Saturday.

The Cougars completely dominated once Keeton left the game, putting up 21 unanswered points before the Aggies added on a garbage-time touchdown in the closing minutes. The final outcome was never really in question during the second half.

Box Score Hero: Mitch Mathews had about as good of a game as you can have as a wide receiver, hauling in a team-high five receptions for 112 yards and three touchdowns. Taysom Hill was equally impressive, completing 17-of-31 passes for 278 yards. As a team, BYU carried the ball 50 times for 155 yards.

Craig Harrison relieved Keeton and played decently, though the Aggies' offense clearly wasn't the same with him under center. He finished the night 18-of-41 for 184 yards with a touchdown in the final two minutes.

Rankings Ramifications: Neither team came into the game ranked, and while the win for BYU will serve as a big confidence booster that pushed them to 3-2 on the season, it won’t be enough to get into the Top 25.

But Did They Cover? Utah State entered as a six-point favorite. The Aggies obviously failed to cover the spread.
