Fantasy football waiver wire: Best wide receivers available in Week 3

The fantasy season is still young, with the bye weeks right around the corner. We take a look at the top wide receivers options available on the wire. Best overall | QB | RB | WR | TE

Patrick McDermott-USA TODAY Sports

With two weeks down in the fantasy football season, we’re starting to get a better idea of where teams stand in 2017. It’s still a bit too early to be making any drastic changes to your roster, but owners should always be keeping an eye on the waiver wire in case injury or slumps are putting a dent in your lineup.

If owners are looking for some replacements or streaming options with the bye weeks around the corner, here are the top wide receivers owned in 50 percent or less of Yahoo! leagues.

Tyler Lockett, Seattle Seahawks (40 percent)

Lockett is fully healthy from his broken leg and figures to be in the mix for the Seahawks’ No. 2 receiver job behind Doug Baldwin. The big drawback is that the Seahawks’ offense is a black hole right now, with a bad offensive line blowing up the game plan and Russell Wilson struggling. Lockett will have blow-up weeks, but they’ll be hard to predict. He’s more of a borderline WR4 against the Tennessee Titans next week.

Allen Hurns, Jacksonville Jaguars (26 percent)

The Jaguars were hideous in Sunday’s loss to the Titans, but it did bring us the return of garbage time Blake Bortles. Hurns was the biggest beneficiary, putting up six catches for 82 yards and a touchdown. Most of his production came well after the game was decided, which is par for the course with the Borltes-led Jaguars. Hurns is a much riskier stream play against the Baltimore Ravens this week.

Jermaine Kearse, New York Jets (six percent)

The Jets’ offense is what we thought it was. The only positive takeaway is that Josh McCown is feeding Kearse targets, and Kearse is doing his part as the default No. 1 receiver. He had two touchdown catches on Sunday and is already rendering Robby Anderson irrelevant. If you absolutely must own a Jets receiver, then Kearse is the one to own.

Rashard Higgins, Cleveland Browns (one percent)

The Browns’ receiver corps is in a pickle early on. Corey Coleman broke his hand and is out for several weeks, cutting short a promising connection with DeShone Kizer. Meanwhile, Kenny Britt is going full Albert Haynesworth, quitting on the team after getting his big paycheck. He got called out by Hue Jackson after dropping an easy pass last week and wasn’t any better in Week 2. With Coleman out and Britt in the doghouse, Higgins looks like the best bet to produce for fantasy owners.

Geronimo Allison, Green Bay Packers (less than one percent)

The Packers took a whooping in Atlanta and now have injury concerns for their top two receivers. Jordy Nelson left with a quad injury, while Randall Cobb has a shoulder injury. If both receivers miss time, that will vault Davante Adams to the No. 1 spot and possibly give important snaps to Allison, who made a few big plays down the stretch last season. We’ll have to see how Allison performs (despite his reputation, Aaron Rodgers can’t just make any random schmuck into an WR1 overnight), but he’s a name to file away if you own Nelson.
