Tommy Hunter Working Back From Injury, Set To Throw Bullpen

Right after the Texas Rangers set their five-man starting rotation in spring training, Tommy Hunter went and sustained a fairly significant groin injury. Now, though, in the middle of April, there's good news on that front. Writes Calvin Watkins:

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Right-hander Tommy Hunter (groin) said he is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday. Hunter, on the DL with a groin injury, hasn’t pitched on a mound in nearly three weeks.

So this’ll be Hunter’s first throwing session from a mound since he originally got hurt. If all goes well, it shouldn’t be long before Hunter reports to the minors to begin what might be a brief rehab stint.

The Rangers have made three turns through their rotation without Hunter to date, with the starters having posted a 2.93 ERA over 95.1 innings. With Colby Lewis and C.J. Wilson locked in, and Derek Holland, Matt Harrison and Alexi Ogando all pitching well, Hunter's return could force Ron Washington to make a difficult decision.
