Tim Tebow is already extraordinarily large for a quarterback. Considering his average to slightly below average height for a quarterback at 6'3", he was a very heavy 240 pounds last year. Apparently, this is not heavy enough for his new team, the New York Jets.
Tim Tebow Wants To Put On Weight
The Jets have Tebow listed as their backup quarterback and he has been practicing as a QB with the second team offense, but that’s probably not his primary function with the team, and the fact that the team is asking him to add bulk is evidence of that. Tebow is up to 249 pounds, and the Jets expect him to play at 250 this season. Said Tebow, about his condition, “I’m trying to be in shape, be strong enough to do anything, but also fast enough to run around a little bit as well.”
Tebow is going to be used as a blocker on punts, and is also expected to play frequently in wildcat sets in the red zone. His biggest asset in 2011 was probably his ability to shed tackles, and a bigger version of Tebow is only going to be more effective in that aspect of his game.
