Mike Adams injury: Steelers tackle will be okay, says Mike Tomlin

Mike Tomlin said Mike Adams is expected to make a full recovery after he was stabbed twice last week.

Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin said Mike Adams is expected to make a full recovery and could be released from the hospital as soon as Tuesday, according to a report from Dan Gigler of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Adams was stabbed twice on Saturday morning during an attempted carjacking. While he suffered two stab wounds -- one in the stomach and on his left forearm -- Adams is expected to make a full recovery and could return to action in as few as six weeks. Tomlin said he visited the second-year right tackle in the hospital over the weekend.

“I visited with him a couple days this weekend,” Tomlin said, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “He’s got great team support [and] family support. We expect a full recovery. He realizes of course how fortunate he is. We’re just glad he is going to be OK, and we’re just taking it day by day.”

Although he should recover in time for training camp, Adams will have to go through a process. Tomlin said once Adams is released, he will continue to be inactive for a couple of weeks before he is able to begin the next step. It appears Adams was fortunate to not sustain worse injuries as according to the police report, one of the carjackers pointed a gun in Adams face before another man stabbed him.

Adams is expected to compete for the starting right tackle job this fall.
