The Tennessee Titans are looking for a long-term solution at quarterback and were hoping to get a good, long look at Zach Mettenberger heading into the offseason. But that plan will have to change now that he's been ruled out for the season with a Grade 3 sprain in his throwing shoulder, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennesseean.

The good news is that Mettenberger, who has started since Week 8, will reportedly not need surgery for the injury. But it will force the Titans to turn back to Jake Locker, who came off the bench for Mettenberger against the New York Giants in Week 14.
Mettenberger, a sixth-round pick out of LSU, finishes his rookie year with 1,412 yards, eight touchdowns, seven interceptions and a 59.8 completion percentage. He went 0-6 as the Titans starter.
Considering that the Titans have long been out of the playoffs, Mettenberger’s loss isn’t a big deal for this season. But it does limit how much the coaching staff got to work with him and could muddle the team’s roster decisions this offseason.
Hampered by injuries and inconsistent play, Locker never lived up to expectations after being grabbed by Tennessee with the No. 8 overall pick in 2011. The team declined to pick up his fifth-year option.
