The Steelers gained ground on the Bengals in the AFC North standings with a big win in Cincinnati while Andrew Luck led the Colts to a comeback win against the Browns. Seattle picked up a win in Philadelphia, but Arizona remains on top of the NFC West after beating Kansas City. New England capped the day with a road win in San Diego.
Bears place Brandon Marshall on injured reserve

Joe Robbins/Getty ImagesMarshall suffered two fractured ribs and a lung injury according to Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times. After inspecting him on the field Thursday night, the Bears’ medical staff had the wideout transported to the hospital where he remained for several days. Though Marshall returned home on Sunday, it was determined that the 30-year-old’s injuries require more recovery time than the remaining 2014 schedule allows.

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY SportsMettenberger, a sixth-round pick out of LSU, finishes his rookie year with 1,412 yards, eight touchdowns, seven interceptions and a 59.8 completion percentage. He went 0-6 as the Titans starter.
Considering that the Titans have long been out of the playoffs, Mettenberger’s loss isn’t a big deal for this season. But it does limit how much the coaching staff got to work with him and could muddle the team’s roster decisions this offseason.

“I don’t care if I do get fined,” Williams on Monday, according to ESPN. “I speak the way I feel, and that’s the way I feel.”
“It was an acknowledgement of good mechanics between the two officials involved in making the call,” NFL spokesman Michael Signora said.

“I’ve broken a lot of records and set a lot of records,” Manning said to Mike Klis of The Denver Post. “I don’t think it was important to set another record.”
Manning shouldn’t feel too bad though. He already holds many records, including for the most career touchdown passes (527 and counting), most touchdown passes (55) and passing yards (5,477) in a single season.

Bennett was one of three players to record a sack of Sanchez Sunday and upped his season total to six. With the win, the Seahawks improved to 9-4 and the Eagles dropped to the same mark, which could matter in the tight race for Wild Card spots in the NFC. Bennett doesn’t appear to be too worried about the Eagles being a factor with Sanchez at the helm, though.

“They shouldn’t. We’re not that good,” Payton said. “I don’t know if it’s being not able to handle a little bit of prosperity or a little bit of success. We’re not that good.”
It wasn’t until less than six minutes remained in the fourth quarter that the Saints were finally able to score against the Panthers. The touchdown came after New Orleans dug into a 41-3 hole against a Panthers team that entered the game 3-8-1 and climbed back into NFC South contention with the win.

Joe Robbins/Getty ImagesAccording to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, there is plenty of criticism floating about the conditioning of Gordon and many believe the receiver is out of shape.
With less than 30 seconds to go in the game, there was another opportunity for the pair to connect deep, but Gordon misjudged Hoyer’s throw and a play that would’ve resulted in more than 50 yards ended up going off his fingertips and essentially sealing the fate of the Browns.

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports“Jay Gruden in particular better watch his back and get Jim Haslett out of the door.”
Given how Washington has looked this season defensively, Haslett probably warrants some criticism. Washington is giving up 26.8 points per game, which ranks 27th in the NFL. It also has perhaps the league’s most ineffective pass defense, giving up an NFL-worst 8.2 yards per attempt and 107.8 average passer rating to opponents. Washington has given up 26 passing touchdowns with just five interceptions this season.

What happened Sunday in the NFL
By Danny Kelly
The Eagles came into their game on Sunday with the Seahawks averaging 416 yards and 31.2 points per game, but Seattle’s defense dominated almost from start to finish, holding Chip Kelly’s offense to 14 points on 139 total yards -- the lowest yardage output in Kelly’s career ... including his college coaching days.

San Diego entered the game on a three-game winning streak and got off to a solid start, but the Chargers offense just couldn’t get much going. The Chargers drop to 8-5 and possibly out of the AFC West race.

PUNTERS ARE PEOPLE TOO

He appeared to hurt his left shoulder or his collarbone -- medical staff wrapped his upper body and secured his left arm. Although a punter is all about his legs, he needs his arms to catch and stuff, so even with an arm injury, it’s tough to play. One would have to assume he’s out for the game.
So you’ve lost your punter. Big whoop! Who cares about punters, right?

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY SportsDespite being limited by injuries for much of the season, Sunday was the first game Ellington missed. He had rushed for 652 yards in 2013, averaging 3.3 yards per carry. But he also averaged more than 20 touches per game. Despite his low yard per carry total, Ellington was a major part of the Arizona offense. He came into the season with high expectations after averaging 5.5 yards per carry last season. He failed to match that average, but remained a solid contributor on the ground and in the passing attack.

The Seattle Seahawks’ visit to the Philadelphia Eagles was billed as perhaps the biggest game in the NFL this weekend. The drama of the game itself failed to live up to the hype, however. The Eagles managed just 139 total yards on the day as the Seahawks sailed to a 24-14 win.
The game started poorly for Seattle. Punter Jon Ryan fumbled a snap, giving the Eagles a short field for their opening score. Philadelphia took a 7-0 lead on 1-yard touchdown pass from Mark Sanchez to Jeremy Maclin.

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY SportsUPDATE: Jamaal Charles returned to the field for the Chiefs late in the second quarter, and scored a touchdown on an 18-yard touchdown reception to give Kansas City a 14-6 lead.
Charles fumbled the ball on the play where he was injured. A review determined that he was down, giving the ball back to the Chiefs. But that would be of little consolation if Kansas City loses its best offensive player. Charles was being evaluated on the sideline as the second quarter began, but later was taken to the locker room.
