Floyd Mayweather beats Marcos Maidana, remains undefeated

Floyd Mayweather beat Manny Pacquiao in a boring but decisive fight. Mayweather won by unanimous decision, and none of the official scorecards had Pacquiao closer than 116-112. But, when interviewed after, Pacquiao said he thought he had won the fight.

Of course, it’s not surprising for a boxer to be confident after going 12 rounds, but Max Kellerman seemed shocked to hear Pacquiao’s response.

Between Ray Rice’s punishment for domestic violence and his fight Saturday against Marcos Maidana, Floyd Mayweather took the opportunity to criticize the NFL’s response to Rice. In a CNN interview, Rachel Nichols put Mayweather on the spot for his comments and his own history of domestic violence.

Mayweather dismissed almost all of Nichols’ questions, insisting evidence is insufficient, people are entitled to their own “opinions”, and “only God can judge” him when needled about his long history of domestic violence.

Floyd Mayweather’s rematch with Marcos Maidana played out in the way most expected, with Mayweather taking a decision as he played it smart defensively and didn’t allow Maidana to get in extended offensive flurries against the ropes.

With the unanimous decision victory, fans are left wondering “what now?” for boxing’s pound-for-pound king.

The rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana was not nearly as exciting as their first go-round and that made it a better fight for Mayweather, one he was much more easily able to win.

Mayweather did a lot of circling and he kept himself from getting pinned to the ropes. In the first fight, Floyd got stuck to the ropes for extended periods of time, allowing Maidana to fire away. This time, Floyd would also reach out, clinch and get out of danger. Some felt he should have received warnings for reaching out to initiate the clinches, but referee Kenny Bayless never did anything to prevent those tactics.

Floyd Mayweather came out for the final round against Marcos Maidana knowing that he had the rematch locked up as long as he could manage to not get knocked out.

Mayweather spent the first minute of the round just running and not looking to engage in any sort of boxing match.

After a round that saw Marcos Maidana lose a point for throwing Floyd Mayweather, the men came out for Round 11 with Maidana needing to score a knockout to win the fight.

Mayweather started with a low blow. There’s a warning and Maidana takes a a few minutes to recover. At the restart, Mayweather throws a hard punch and Maidana tries to pin him to the ropes again.

During the 8th round of Mayweather-Maidana 2, Floyd Mayweather complained that Marcos Maidana bit him on the glove:

Not really clear from any angle whether or not Maidana clamped down or whether Floyd was merely embellishing, but it’s certainly plausible. Either way, the referee didn’t award a point and the fight carried on, although the ref did begin issuing warnings after the incident.

It appears heading into Round 10 that Marcos Maidana needs to stop Floyd Mayweather, or at least score a few knockdowns, to win their rematch.

Mayweather landed a left hook early in the round as Maidana spent too much time in the center of the ring again. Maidana threw Mayweather to the canvas when he couldn’t get free from a clinch and now the referee has deducted a point for the foul.

After an eighth round that saw Floyd Mayweather accuse Marcos Maidana of biting him through the glove, the fighters came out for Round 9 and settled back into the same pattern.

Maidana would get inside, Floyd would clinch and they’d get broken and Mayweather would get no warning and get back to the center of the ring.

Floyd Mayweather appeared to be pulling away in his rematch with Marcos Maidana as the fighters came out for the eighth round.

Maidana continues not getting Floyd to the ropes, and when he does Floyd is clinching and getting no warnings for doing so.

Marcos Maidana had a decent Round 6 against Floyd Mayweather, but he needs to do a lot more to earn the victory on the scorecards.

They came out in Round 7 and stood in the middle of the ring, which is firmly established as Mayweather’s territory. Maidana finally pushed Floyd to the ropes and landed one punch before Mayweather reached out and grabbed another clinch.

Marcos Maidana may well be on his way to the point where he needs a knockout to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. since he simply isn’t getting enough done offensively in most rounds.

The two men came out for round six with Maidana pushing forward and Mayweather trying to circle away from the ropes.

In Round 4, Marcos Maidana had his best round so far in his rematch with Floyd Mayweather and he needed to come out in Round 5 and build on that momentum. Maidana landed a left hand and a good jab, but Mayweather landed a nice right hand.

The early action in this round was taking place in the center of the ring and that allowed Floyd to throw jabs and straight rights, but Maidana landed a good counter right and a hard jab.

Floyd Mayweather got wobbled by a big shot from Marcos Maidana at the end of Round 3. That one punch seemed to give Maidana a lot of confidence as he came out in Round 4 and started tagging Floyd to the body and head with a shocking degree of regularity.

Mayweather continually found himself trapped against the ropes eating shots, but he then landed a heavy right and a big body shot and another right to come back.

Marcos Maidana was spending a lot of time trying to box Floyd Mayweather in the first two rounds of their rematch on Showtime pay-per-view, and he was likely down two rounds because of it.

In round three Maidana came out looking like he might be willing to force his way inside a little bit more, but Mayweather was still circling.

Floyd Mayweather started off the rematch with Marcos Maidana with a very good first round, moving around and keeping Maidana from doing much work.

In round two, Maidana did get some shots in early against the ropes before Mayweather stated to circle again.

Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana came out for the first round of their rematch each looking to make their mark and establish the way this fight was going to play out.

In the first bout, Maidana came on strong in the early rounds before Mayweather eventually came back.

This was for the Argentine national anthem (Maidana, of course, is Argentine) and ... man ... nothing against recorders, but I feel like Argentina was sold short a bit by having a recorder national anthem. That said, look at the heart being displayed by Adult Recorder Player Guy.

Mickey Bey and Miguel Vazquez put on a snoozer on the undercard of the rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Marcos Maidana. In twelve rounds of “action” -- so 24 combined opportunities -- only three times did one of them land ten or more punches in a round.

Still, it seemed to most that Vazquez had probably done enough to earn a decision win, but nothing is certain on a Mayweather undercard with a fighter whose camp is decked out in TMT apparel, as was the case for Bey.

After notching a narrow win the first time around, Floyd Mayweather will attempt to come away with a similar result against Marcos Maidana when the two square off in the rematch Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. Viewers in the United States will be limited on options to legally stream the fight online, but there are a few options to watch the bout.

There will be no legal stream of the fight in the United States. Viewers can purchase the Showtime pay-per-view or watch from a bar or other establishment showing the fight. Several Fathom Theaters will air the fight with a full list of participating locations available here.

Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana are back in the ring at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for a rematch of their welterweight title fight from May 3. Mayweather won a controversial decision over Maidana in their first encounter, but Maidana held his own for 12 rounds and earned a draw on judge Michael Pernick’s scorecard in their first fight.

Four months later, the two are back on Showtime pay-per-view, with the undercard kicking off at 8 p.m. ET.

James de la Rosa came into his bout with Alfredo Angulo on the Mayweather vs. Maidana 2 undercard looking to make the most f an opportunity on a big stage. It only took a few minutes to show that he was going to do just that.

Using speed against the flat footed Angulo, de la Rosa stung with combos and was even able to club Angulo and drop him in the second round.

Floyd Mayweather returns to the ring tonight, looking to make a statement in his rematch with Marcos Maidana. Maidana shocked the world in May when he pushed Mayweather hard, earning a draw on one official judge’s card and the victory on the unofficial cards of many fans and media members.

While Mayweather was able to officially escape with the win, the narrow escape has many questioning if Mayweather is fading, if Maidana has his number or if it was just a “one night only” performance where Maidana fought to his peak while Mayweather wasn’t as sharp as normal.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Marcos Maidana hit the scales tonight in Las Vegas, Nevada, looking to make tomorrow night’s rematch on Showtime pay-per-view official.

Both men walked out to the stage to a great deal of cheering, especaially notable was an unusually enthusiastic reaction to Mayweather’s entrance. He walked in a green track suit with a hat reading “Money just make it.”
