Tim Tebow engineered a 95-yard drive, capped by a 20-yard touchdown run, late in the fourth quarter to give the Denver Broncos a 17-13 win over the New York Jets. For more on the Jets, check out Gang Green Nation. For more on the Broncos, check out Mile High Report.
Tim Tebow Is Living The Salad Days, As They Say
And every time this works, I’m reminded of this scene:
It looks like what we thought football was when we were five years old. It’s a little more sophisticated than that, of course -- Tebow looks for an opening, and his teammates’ blocks are usually designed. But when he performs runs like Thursday night’s 20-yard game-winner, even when he succeeds, I look at it, and strangely, I somehow get the impression that he doesn’t understand football.

Tebow discussed the game with the Thursday Night Football crew, and we have video of that below. But first and foremost, watch the video of Tebow’s game-winning touchdown, just to make sure it happened.
It’s incredible. The Jets send the house and Tebow just rolls out left and beats everyone to the corner.

The drama went into the final minute of the game as Tebow’s Broncos lined up in field goal range at the 20-yard line. The Jets sent eight guys and Tebow escaped the rush, rolled out to his left and scampered into the end zone for the game-winning touchdown.
That touchdown run set a new (very specific) NFL record. According to Elias, Tebow’s touchdown run was the longest game-winning touchdown run by a quarterback in the final minute of the fourth quarter in NFL history.

Yes, Tim Tebow’s scramble into the end zone gave the Denver Broncos a 17-13 win over the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football. And yes, Tebow did engineer the 95-yard drive late in the fourth quarter to set that touchdown up. But despite his heroics, Denver likely wouldn’t have even been in position to win without a huge effort from its defense.
It wasn’t as though the Denver defense was out of this world or facing a high-powered offense. The Jets’ struggles this year have been well documented, and Denver capitalized on them. With the Broncos’ offense sputtering in the second half, it was the defense that picked up the slack, intercepting Mark Sanchez and returning it 26 yards for the touchdown. The pick-six tied the game heading into the fourth quarter, and gave Denver life.

I can’t really explain this one -- Tebow and the Broncos didn’t play great for much of this game. In Tebow’s first 11 drives, he completed 6-of-15 passes for 69 yards and rushed only twice for 11 yards.
But with the Broncos down 13-10, and about six minutes left in the game,Tebow put together a drive we’re not going to forget anytime soon -- 12 plays and 95 yards in less than five minutes capped off by Tebow’s game-winning 20-yard run. On that drive, Tebow completed 3-of-5 passes for 35 yards and rushed the ball six times for 57 yards.

Until the final few minutes of Thursday night’s matchup between the Denver Broncos and New York Jets, there weren’t many good things to say about the play on the field. Both quarterbacks struggled, as expected, both offenses sputtered and the game itself was almost painful to watch. But then Tim Tebow happened.
It’s not as though his 20-yard run to cap a 95-yard drive somehow excuses his poor passing performance. It doesn’t. But for one drive, Tebow handled his business and took control. 17 plays, 95 yards, five minutes of game clock and one impressive run.

We all know what happens next right?
On third-and-4 the Jets called an all out blitz, knowing Tim Tebow would keep the football in his hands. Tebow took the ball off the left tackle to some wide open field and ran 20 yards to the endzone to give the Broncos with a 17-13 lead with just under a minute left.

Willis McGahee Injury: Broncos RB Expected To Play Vs. Jets
It was previously reported that the Broncos were hopeful he would play and NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reports that, barring a setback, McGahee will indeed play against the Jets.
The Broncos are 4-5 and surprisingly a came out of first place. McGahee will have to be effective against New York’s stout defense because Tebow’s passing abilities are clearly limited and establishing any sort of offensive rhythm will come from the run, not the pass.

(Photo by Ezra Shaw/Getty Images) Getty ImagesThe over-under on the NFL Network game is at 42½, a bit lower than some might expect. Considering the Jets have gone “over” during 14 of their last 16 games on the road and the Broncos have gone over in their past five games at home, that might not be a bad bet either.
