It may come as a revelation, but Casey Mears finished 2015 higher in the standings (23rd) than several drivers with bigger teams and deeper pockets. That campaign, however, saw Mears finish in the top 10 just once with his points ranking more a reflection on everyone else's mediocrity than the journeyman driver maximizing the capabilities of his small Germain Racing team. At this juncture, Mears is what he is, and to get into the Chase would require a confluence of fortuitous circumstances, which seems incredibly unlikely.
